Headkase are the most original metal band I've seen in some time. Combining thrash metal and keyboards has been done before, but the demented circus sound of Headkase is vastly different from the poxy 'choir' patch used by too many black metal bands.
Six members being too big for the stage, one of the guitarists had to stand in the mosh pit. That's how you know you're in a relatively humble venue. After the concert, Nutty, ed as a newt, keeps the same look on his face as when he was onstage, howling those incredible vocals. Perhaps the wind changed. Regardless, looks like these are good times for Headkase.

Headkase were next and to start off with I thought they were just generic death metal but they turned out to be a really crazy mix of all genres of metal that was really awesome.

I've seen these guys few times and they are the GODS of local bands and would smoke any other band from Australia so get along to one of ther gigs my friends.

Headkase - These guys are entertaining as . Their new breed of circus metal is interesting to say the least. They also played a couple of songs I knew that I really got into. 8/10

This was the first time I have seen HEADKASE as a full on metal band without the make up, wild costumes and theatrics...and they are really, really good! The lead singer Nutty has embraced the ethos of Punk by insulting his own useless generation and delivering holier than thou speeches about anti alcohol....... that combined with a Kevin '07 shirt and growling vocals make him look like a surreal cabaret act!
Though the true force of this band are its talented musicians, Raleigh Valemont looks like Brendan Fraser in Airheads and plays lead guitar like a mad man, he is very much the showman with or without the make up and leathers. Talent shines through no matter what the disguise.
The set was being filmed by TV Show "UNDERGROUND SOUNDS" and the audience were an insane bunch of rockers, ravers, lovers and sinners, who insisted on jumping on the stage to join in the show.

Headkase, Phalanx & Humality featured on October 17th... Headkase are a hard rocking musically tight band, with a great sound and a very aggressive singer looking like a combination of Marilyn Manson and Burlesque performer Dita Von Teese. Plus Raleigh Valemont on lead guitar if you ever get a chance .....see this guy play! He is astounding (and he can cook too...why is this man single???? )
However, the most theatrical member of Headkase is the drummer .. Todd Hansen, such amazing make up (where does he get that eyeliner from?) with brother Brett Hansen ..board dressed as a cannibal clown, enhanced by the amazing lead guitar of Raleigh Valemont.

Went to the local "metal" club.
Four local death metal bands played.
Only memorable band was "Headkase". 6 piece band. Did a decent job.
Sound quality sucked... like usual. Couldn't hear the vocals + they were too distorted. Everything else was alright.
Next concert - next friday night. Alright :)

Headkase are playing at around 10:45pm, right after The Wrath and just before The Berzerker.

You might find some old favourite bands who no longer exist (Yuri, Deep Fry, Ochre)... or bands who you wouldn't have expected to see on a bill with us (Freaky Lou, Repeat Offender, Catacomb). Gigs you missed out on and gigs you remember attending.

Hey everyone,
Thanks to everyone who has posted video footage of Headkase on YouTube.
There are a few videos of Deja Vous, Murdered and Dumped in the Willow, Superfluous, and Where the Blood May Lead there... but if anyone has footage of the following songs, that would be great if you could upload these to YouTube...
- Cocaine & Caffeine (the one with the bossa nova intro, and lyrics, "If I had a gun, a lot of people would not be here!")
- Come Alive (the bouncy techno sounding one)
- The Growing Release Mechanism (newest song, piano intro, death metal ending, lyrics, "Promote your natural self")

What now for Headkase? Is it the end? Will the album still be released? Will there be a line-up change? Will there be any more shows?
The following is an excerpt from vocalist Nutty's blog (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=72426118), which I have asked permission to quote from. This will shed some light on where Headkase are at:
"To put all rumours aside we were never close to splitting up. The recording that is still in the later stages of post-production has put a lot of strain on the relationships between members and their confidence in how we will achieve what we have set out to, when delay has been to only consistent factor within our pursuit.
Many would know that Todd announced his intention to head overseas and try his luck drumming for death-metal outfits in either Europe or Canada, these opportunities subsided and others illuminated, seeing Brisbane still becoming his base of operations with an expected touring calendar taking him away for a few months at a time. The effect of which, will see Headkase play a show every couple of months and once the album's out, tour and write material for the next one. But for the moment, the decision to change the line-up has been post-poned until any decision that sees Todd exit the country has been announced.
There was much speculation about who would replace Todd and a few other changes. If the change was to occur, my plans were to replace Todd with a vocalist and drummer and although there were a few options on the drummer front and we were in negociations with some, their was only one person would could have replaced Todd on vocals and that was Demon, who now sings for a band called Deprave, and if the situation to replace Todd arises again, the choice to become a 7 piece would quickly fall back into place".

Headkase pretty much only get to play 18+ gigs, despite hundreds of requests for more all ages performances.
Our applications to play all ages gigs are generally ignored or rejected by the promoters/organisers.
Kids, if you sign this petition, at least we'll have proof to show them that people ARE interested in coming to see Headkase at all ages gigs.
Then they might let us play more shows for you - the fans who constantly miss out.

SO...WHAT THE HAS BEEN GOING ON WITH PHOENIX, YOU ASK?
The burning question on every metal, hardcore, goth, punk, emo and rock kids lip has been this one. We here at Heretik / Phoenix Events have been hard at work, securing shows and making contacts to ensure our healthy scene and community has live music venues to enjoy, regardless of a permanent live home or not. Yes, the venue (now known as Rosies) at 235 Edward St Brisbane is no longer soley ours to book and promote, however we're still on very good terms with the new management and will have the occasional show there in the coming months. However, there are some changes that everyone in the alternative community needs to be aware of, and we'd appreciate the help in spreading the news as far as possible! Note: We are no longer called 'club' Phoenix, just 'PHOENIX'

HEADKASE will appear tonight (Saturday 29 September) on Underground Sounds, a music program on Channel 31 in Brisbane. 9:30pm.
Readers from the rest of Australia can check their TV guides for a screening on their local Channel 31 as well, as I understand the show airs nationwide.
Anyone with decent reception of Channel 31, be sure to tape it and upload it onto YouTube!

Recorded by Andrew Chrome, this version is available on a new compilation CD called, "Before The Calm Returns".
The CD consists of 13 unsigned metal acts from Brisbane and the Gold Coast: This Collision, Submission, Headkase, Anarchaos, Transfear, Time Has Come, Insinner, Rising Descent, Torn Asunder, Wren, Sean Seibheim, Whisky Fists, Broken Half Dead.
