It is with regret that Opeth announce to their fans that they will not be performing in Israel at the Anthem festival on 14th august as the promoters have now cancelled the festival due to 'security issues' and intend to reschedule the festival in December, but Opeth can confirm that they wont be part of this rescheduled date but will book a headline show in Israel in 2009 where fans can see the band do a full set . The date will be announced shortly.

New York, NY: Impressive reviews are pouring in, including 4-stars from Blender ("Prog was rarely as songful as the brutal beauty here"), raves from Pitchfork ("Watershed has friction, and friction brings heat. Those left cold by metal's po-faced tendencies might well warm up to it") and a feature in Billboard ("one of the most unique bands straddling the line between progressive music and metal"). Frontman Mikael Akerfeldt currently graces the cover of Decibel. An astounding 19,000 copies were sold in its first week in stores. Therefore, the verdict is definitely in. Sweden's Opeth have set and raised the bar with their latest album, Watershed. Watershed debuted at 23 on the Billboard chart, the band's highest ever chart position and the biggest first week sales bow in its career. While the trend in today's climate finds many career bands having smaller initial weeks, Opeth, like their music, buck all trends and do their own thing, continuing to go against the grain, trending upwards and making progress. Fresh off the hugely successful Progressive Nation Tour with labelmates Dream Theater, Opeth will return to US soil this fall for a headline run, bringing their unique blend of prog, death metal, hard rock and Swedish folk to the mes and more.

Friend Requests:
You might have sent us a friend request lately, or you might have sent it several weeks ago, and still have not been accepted. Why has Opeth, in all their fancy pink clothes decided not to accept your request for friendship? The answer is, we haven't.
We set a setting in our profile that automatically accepts friend requests. So basically this means that if we haven't accepted you in a 24 hour period, try again. Try sending another request. If it says your old request is still pending, then email myspace and at them and tell them to do something useful for once! (no offense, myspace).
We want to be friends with everybody, but it takes hours every day to accept all the requests manually, so we have to rely on the automated myspace feature. Sorry for all who cannot seem to get through onto our friends list.
Messages:
If you sent us a message, we will read it, forward it to the right people, and ponder over it for days over and over in the midst of our subconscious and sometimes fully conscious minds (when we're not drunk). Sometimes we just can't send a reply, but we try to for every one. And we do have someone who helps with the managing of messages and other myspace duties so that since we're on tour, some stuff can still go on. Because the show must... but myspace isn't really a show - in which case; my words do not meet their intended epicness.
Alright, that's my bit of drunken rant for the night.
Cheers,
Opeth

Although a decent amount of tickets has been sold there are still plenty left available. Get yours NOW! You simply cannot afford to miss an opportunity like this. A once in a lifetime happening with unique performances from a wide range of bands such as Opeth, Katatonia, Comus (first gig since 1972!!), Leafhound, Mats & Morgan all star team, Bo Hansson, Anekdoten, Trettioåriga kriget and many more.
Mikael Åkerfeldt: "OK guys, if you're only going to one gig this year, this one has to be it! You need to realize how insane it's going to be, so I decided to comment on some of the great bands that will appear here. To me, this line-up beats ALL of the Summer festivals coming up. Those are always the same, this one is 100% unique!
COMUS:
Well, what can I say? Their "First utterance" album from 1971 perplexed me to no end. I had a hard time getting into/understanding it. But it finally clicked and now it's become a companion for life. Roger's lyrics really inspired me, so much that I named our 3rd album "My arms your hearse" after a line off their song "Drip drip". They're simply one of my favourite bands of all time! Musically it's psychedelic folk that breathes a darkness like nothing I've heard from the era of folk rock, or since. This gig will be their first since 1972 so that alone is reason enough why you cannot miss this concert. Who knows, maybe this is the only chance you'll ever get to see them? I simply can't wait for this!
LEAFHOUND:
Their "Growers of mushroom" record from 1971 is one of the most sought after heavy rock albums ever. And it's a slab of great groovy heavy rock they way it's supposed to be delivered. I've loved it ever since I first heard it. Pete French is a perfect gentleman and a ing awesome rock vocalist. He was in Cactus (with Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert from Vanilla Fudge), and later also in Atomic Rooster among others. I reckon their gig will have me swinging beers while head banging (if that is possible).
KATATONIA:
My very good friends and also band-mates in BLOODBATH. They basically don't need an introduction. Swedish Katatonia gigs are pretty rare. I haven't seen them for years and I can't wait. Maybe they'll play some "Brave murder day" stuff….?
MATS/MORGAN ALL STAR BAND (w/ Fredrik Thordendal & Gustaf Hielm/MESHUGGAH, Ia Eklundh/FREAK KITCHEN + Lar Hollmer/SAMLA MAMMAS MANNA:
Well, this one I'm sure it's going to be a ing mive treat. These guys puts pretty much most musicians to shame. Mats & Morgan played with FRANK ZAPPA in the late 80´s and has a long line of musical adventures together. They're pretty amazing to say the least. Ia Eklundh has taken the guitar acrobatics of Steve Vai to the next label and is probably one of the world's most accomplished electric/metal guitar players. And Le Hollmer from the legendary SMM is….yeah…a legend!
Now, Fredrik Thordendals/MESHUGGAH solo record "Sol niger within" is one of the most intense pieces of music I've ever heard! Who plays drums on that record? That's right…Morgan Ågren! loooooo!!!!!??? The possibility of that coming together live is simply to much to grasp. I can only hope for now….but I will be there…Oh, yes I will be!!
ANEKDOTEN:
The best dark prog rock band out of Sweden. Gigs in promotion of "A time of day", their last record have been very scarce. I've seen them twice since the release and they almost moved me to tears at Sweden rock last year. If you like a more emotional take on King Crimson, Van Der Graaf generator or even Radiohead…they're highly recommended!
BO HANSSON:
Now, here's a legend! Not only did ing JIMI HENDRIX cover one of his songs ("Tax Free"), he also did the first, and best musical interpretation of "Lord of the rings" in 1970. That record is in the top of my all-time favourite records! And so are most of his other releases. All the HANSSON & KARLSSON albums (late 60´s pioneering organ/drum venture) + his solo albums and his stints with FLÄSKET BRINNER are certainly more than recommended! The fan-boy in me demands an autograph and a photo, or either…or whatever.
TRETTIOÅRIGA KRIGET:
One of the great heavy prog rock bands from Sweden. Especially their first 2 records ("s/t" & "Krigsång") had an enormous impact on me. I remember listening to "Jag, jag & jag" every night before I fell asleep. Their newer releases impressed the out of me as well. I'm a major fan and they have influenced my song writing a lot!
I've seen them only once before and they blew my head clean off, so I can't wait to see them again!
OPETH:
That's right…yeah…we'll be there too! We rehearsed today. Did a cool jazzy re-arrangement of an ol' "clic". Gonna be fun! Playing a new song as well. Actually it's my favourite to play in the bunch we're doing that night. We'll play in a big- galleria. That will be a first, and probably a last too. We need your support, even though it's a warm up gig in many ways, I can't wait and we'll be "ed and loaded".
There's so much else going on….Nathalie (who sings on our new record "Watershed" will be there performing original songs with Axe and Mendez among others. Emma Nordenstam will be there. Club super 8 will be there….great! They specialize in forgotten artefacts from the Swedish underground film scene. Lots of B-movies, soft , thrillers and all sorts of stuff! Lovely! Many of my friends are coming, Steven Wilson is coming (not playing…I think). I think it's going to be like a 2 day party of gigantic measures. I can't wait!!! Hope you can come too guys! Seriously…!!!

"Watershed" is the name of Opeth´s 9th studio observation. The album has just been mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren with M. Åkerfeldt. The album consist of 7 songs and the titles are as follows:
1. Coil
2. Heir Apparent
3. The Lotus Eater
4. Burden
5. Porcelain Heart
6. Hessian Peel
7. Hex Omega
All the songs have been written by M. Åkerfeldt apart from "Porcelain Heart" which was co-written with Fredrik Åkesson. One additonal track, "Derelict Herds" has also been recorded and this was written by Mikael Åkerfeldt and Per Wiberg. On top of this, 3 cover songs has been recorded. "Bridge of sighs" from Robin Trower´s 1974 Lp with the same title, "Den ständiga resan" (sung in Swedish) by Marie Fredriksson as well as the clic Alice in Chains song, "Would?".
The album was recorded at Fascination street studios during November 1 and December 13. Some addtional recordings were done between January 3rd and 7th. Produced by Jens Bogren and Mikael Åkerfeldt and Opeth.
Says Mikael Åkerfeldt: "I´ve worked so hard with these songs for quite some time now, I´ve listened to 'em a zillion times. I don't hate them just yet! The album sounds great sonically and I think I can hear us evolving as the record plays on. It is taking us somewhere musically and I don't know where. It's very exciting to say the least! I can't remember having enjoyed a recording this much ever before."
The cover was (as usual) designed by Travis Smith in co-operation with Åkerfeldt. Release date is yet to be confirmed but Roadrunner worldwide will have it out sometime in the Springtime of this year.

Fredrik Åkesson has been confirmed as being the new guitarist in Opeth. Visit his MySpace at: www.myspace.com/kfredrikakesson
Says Mikael Åkerfeldt: "Well, I think it's too soon right now to fully be able to explain what I feel. Peter and I had been working in this band together for almost half of our lives and we shared some unforgettable experiences together all over the world. We will obviously remain friends and this "break up" has been on very good terms from both sides. We all wish him the best of luck with his future ventures!
Fredrik was the only name that popped up thinking about a replacement for Peter. In my opinion he's one of the top 3 guitar players out of Sweden. We all get along great as we've known each other for maybe 4 years + he already has the experience to take on the circus-like lifestyle we lead as members of Opeth.
I can't wait to see what he can bring to the table musically and also to get out on the roads touring together. His first gig will be at the Ilosaari festival in Finland. I'm sure he'll his pants before that one, but then again...so will I!"

Fake Myspace ContestsNote: We will be having some contests soon, those are not fraudulent ;), Stay posted to our OFFICIAL page. There has been a recent onslaught of clowns creating fake profiles modeled after your favorite bands in order to get you to fall for their bs lines. They want you to enter contests for "VIP tickets to Las Vegas," they want to sell you ring tones, they want to trick you into doing all sorts of stuff, but what it comes down to it this...
* The bands' fans being targeted by this are being duped. The bands are being used as bait, and are
NOT endorsing this crap.
* All of this is just so some douchebag can make a few cents off of getting your name to sell to countless other douchebags who only care about targeting you with their bull and stealing yo moneys!
So...what we've done is film a ghetto 'lil tutorial for you to see how to tell the difference between these frauds, and also how to report them to the proper authorities...the video can be found at the bottom of this message.
Please feel free to p this clip around to anyone you think will be fooled by this scam -- if you are a fan of several of these bands, it may be worth it to bulletin about this. I know that we have gotten a lot of appreciative mail from people who would have otherwise believed these events to be legit so you could be saving your friends some hle if you give them a headsup now. If you don't know how to embed a vidclip into a bulletin you can just include this link:

Hey everyone,
There seems to be a lot of confusion on various forums about this forthcoming Opeth/PL tour, Paradise Lost is
NOT a support band for Opeth, they are special guests and therefore will be playing a full 1 hour set. Not 30, or 40 minutes as some people ume.

After several months away from his drumming duties in Opeth Martin Lopez has permanently decided to leave the group. After being plagued by illness and anxiety attacks Lopez decided he wanted to concentrate fully on his own project, currently unnamed. His replacement will be Martin "Axe" Axenrot who's been filling in for the last 5 tours and who also recorded with the band during the recent BBC sessions.
Mikael Åkerfeldt: " However sad I and the rest of the band feel in light of Lopez departure I want to thank him for his incredible work with Opeth and immense dedication to the band. We recorded some clic stuff together and he obviously had an enormous impact on our sound. I now feel very excited to hear the material of his own band. In the meantime Opeth fans can rest ured that we'll continue jamming it out with Axe and we all have high expectations about our coming musical ventures "

"Metal music, largely ignored general public and media, is often described as dangerous because of the religious mediums. For more than 30 years, metal has been abounded with stereotypes and provocative images. The abbot, Robert Culat took time to know this universe underground in the most objective possible way. The Age of metal delivers not only the conclusions to you of its study but also of its experiment in contact with the metalheads: those which like and practise this music. The author dares to believe in an enriching dialogue between metalheads and uninitiated, between metalheads and Christian. Beyond the stereotypes, the reader is invited to discover the beauty and the variety of metal as well as the philosophical and spiritual questioning of those which are devoted to it with pion."
