Bio and profile of The Rocketsmiths

The Rocketsmiths

Injecting youth, energy and style to the good old' rockabilly...

In the dark of night, two strange men emerge from the depths of drunkenness to wreak havoc upon the world. These two men are wild, dangerous and extremely inappropriate. They do not discriminate against race, colour or creed; everyone is in their target. Whether you’re a dopey bouncer throwing them out of a fine drinking establishment or a young lady just looking for a nice night out on the town, these two men will harass you until you’re screaming for mercy or in fits of laughter. Who are these two strange men, you ask? For the answer look no further than Brisbane’s very own, The Rocketsmiths. In July 2007 these two men, Horace and Clyde, will be unleashed upon the world in a storm of music, beer and vulgarities and you can come along for the ride. The Rocketsmiths present the release of and subsequent tour supporting their new EP, “Meet Horace and Clyde”. Its been a huge year for The Rocketsmiths; after launching their debut EP in mid-2006 to a packed house at Brisbane’s legendary Fortitude Valley venue, The Zoo, the boys gained even more momentum playing support for “The Boat People”, America’s “We Are Scientists” and mid 90’s pop rockers, “The Presidents of the United States of America” as well as being honoured with an invitation to play in the legendary Brisbane music festival, The Valley Fiesta. In early 2007, The Rocketsmiths took an even bigger step forward after touring through New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia and playing with such bands as The Camels, The Basics, Special Patrol, Cuthbert&The Night Walkers and Bright Yellow as well as supporting Australian indie pop heroes, The Whitlams. And now, on the 29th of June 2007, the band nationally releases its second EP, “Meet Horace and Clyde”. The name of the six-track EP refers to the drunken alter-egos of their own band members that The Rocketsmiths had the pleasure of meeting through the last year on late nights in strange cities. They are Horace and Clyde, the outrageous, ecstatic and dangerous personalities contained deep within the minds of The Rocketsmiths. The songs contained on this CD tell stories of the lives of these five young boys and the world in which they live. From the sweet lyrics of “A Good Example of a Cliché Love Song” to the salute to their home town that is “Fake Vegas”, to the very relevant tale of depression contained within first single, “Modern Life” and the Indie Pop rockabilly sound of “Worth It”’ their songs brim with energy, effervescence and a sound that is uniquely “The Rocketsmiths”. And luckily enough you can catch The Rocketsmiths’ amazing live show during June and July in a venue near you on their “Meet Horace and Clyde” EP release tour. Come along and check out the band everyone is starting to talk about with their unique style of music which is energetic yet restrained, quirky yet mature and hip yet totally uncool.
