The Shakes (United Kingdom)

The Shakes Music and Mp3's

Bio and profile of The Shakes

The Shakes

hot import fresh from the UK.

Hot SE London four-piece playing catchy 3 1/2 minute tunes with stick-in-your-head melodies and fresh new sounds.

Signed to Tough Cookie Records, the band played the Reading Festival for the first time last Summer. Their single, Liberty Jones was released at the end of October, picking up plays on XFM, Radio 2 and BBC 6Music. It also scored a #1 in the Worldwide Podcasting Music Chart and was picked up in the US by Indie 103.1 in LA and 102.7 WEQX in New York. It sold out in two weeks.

Their new single 'I Want A Better Life' will be released in April. Already at #1 in the PMC Top 10, the track was produced by James Lewis (Artic Monkeys, The On-Offs, Morning Runner, Dead 60s) and shows a rawer, rougher side to their sound.

Live is the place to see the Shakes. With a reputation for a highly-charged show, they recently sold out The Borderline, The Water Rats, 93 Feet East, and The 100 Club. Click here for a review from New Noise or better still come down to the next show and join the party.

Latest on the album and new photos

We've had a break from recording for a week, which we all definitely needed. The songs sound a million times fresher when you've given your ears a rest.

So the plan now is that we go back into the studio at the end of june to finish a few of the tracks and to stick another few down. Then we'll make the cut to the 10 tracks that'll be on the album.

If you want to see some of the pictures from our last session there'll all in our gallery here

Pics and latest from the studio

5 days in at Fishmarket with James Lewis and the tracks are sounding great. The studio's mive, layed out a bit like Abbey Road 2 - big live room and a control room upstairs.

There's loads of great sounding vintage gear around the place that we've borrowed and been turning up loud to get sounds from. Feel like kids in a toy shop. Overdubs start today, mainly for Gaz. Vocals tomorrow and the rest of the week.

It's hot. We've picked the hottest days of the year so far to record on the week the studio's air conditiong's packed in. Control room's a sweatbox.

Can't wait to get it finished. Here are a few shots of the studio, we'll also have some video for you soon too

Ed on new Groove Armada album

Listen to See What You Get on the new Groove Armada album Soundboy Rock.

The synth line is played by Ed, who Groove Armada got in touch with for some help with the track. Hopefully the first collaberation of many.
